Lawrence Sanchez

Board Secretary

Lawrence Sanchez is the Superintendent for Belen Consolidated Schools (BCS). He began his career with BCS 28 years ago as a student teacher at Belen Middle School. He taught language arts, webpage design, animation and desktop publishing at BMS for 19 years before joining the administrative ranks as an assistant principal at Belen High School. After serving in the AP position for one year, he was named BMS principal where he served for three years before being named BHS principal in July of 2019. He then became superintendent of BCS in December of 2020.

As a former coach in football and softball, Sanchez is a believer in the tenet of strong collaboration leading to success, whether it be in the classroom, athletic field, or board- room. He recognizes that collaboration between all stakeholders is necessary for district improvement initiatives to be successful. Sanchez believes in servant leadership and strives to assist the members of his team in focusing on their common goals rather than their differences. The goal of doing what is best for our students should drive all decision-making in the district.

Sanchez has a BA in Business Management from New Mexico Highlands University, an MA in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University, and an MBA in Education Leadership from the University of New Mexico.

He comes from a family of educators. His family has been involved in education in NM public schools continuously since 1935. His grandfather served as Superintendent of Hondo Valley Public Schools for 28 years. His wife, Carolyn, and daughter, Jacklynn, are both teachers, and his parents were also teachers.
